Swavlamban (Youth empowered & Skill Development Project)

During the course of their previous operations and activities, they noticed the issues   the Students and jobseekers from various areas were facing. One of these was lack of awareness among the students about the new emerging job sectors or any job generation activity taking place together with lack of knowledge related to skill development. This led to a strong preference for government jobs over jobs with private organisations or self-employment. Another factor is the belief among the students that only government jobs provide job security. They study to get a degree only as there is a perception that degree is a gateway to job and are not focussed on getting education and skill development which will actually make them employable This led to the launch of a new programme ‘Swavlamban’ for addressing these issues.  The purpose of this programme is to help the students to become ‘’SWAVLAMBI’’ – self-reliant and to have faith in themselves – train and improve their skills for new openings and jobs.

PREF will act as “Path Pradarshak”- a friend and guide on the road to self-reliance. They will provide information about changing job markets and about skill acquisition and improvement as they believe that information and knowledge leads to self-reliance.

Swavlamban is a platform to connect jobseekers of the area with job opportunities and provide all relevant information of the field. Information and knowledge improves the quality of decision making and makes a person open to the possibility of tapping new opportunities. PREF will act as a catalyst for young people in becoming self-reliant and improve and utilize their skills to optimal level.

This in turn will act to improve their knowledge about the actual conditions in the present scenario and motivate them to mould and reshape themselves according to the job market conditions and also become a source of job generation. Correct employability skills and knowledge itself acts as a job security.

The services provided through Swavlamban would be free for the job seekers. For those who have limited access to computers and internet, PREF relationship executives would be visiting the villages of Allahabad District on regular intervals to assist the youth to register and gain access to their internet account, connect to the job providers and also to access their account after application. They will also provide SMS facilities for the job seekers. The programme will be first launched in Karchana Block in Allahabad District and then expand it to all the blocks of the district. They plan to connect jobseekers from far flung rural areas to job opportunities.
